Minnesota company earns silver, bronze at Chocolate Awards
The company took home the awards for its new Burnt Cinnamon and Bourbon Bar and its Macadamia bon bon.
MARINE ON ST CROIX, Minn. — A local confectionary earned international recognition over the weekend for two of its sweet treats made right here in Minnesota.
The St. Croix Chocolate Company (SCCC) took home both silver and bronze awards at the International Chocolate Awards Finals Competition held Sunday in Florence, Italy. The company won the awards for its new Burnt Cinnamon and Bourbon Bar and its Macadamia bon bon, respectively.
“I’m so pleased, and really proud of what we have accomplished,” said chocolatier and co-owner of SCCC Robyn Dochterman, in a statement. “It’s a huge achievement to compete on this level, and excel.”
The competition, the world’s largest among craft chocolate makers, is judged by “chocolate professionals” who assess each entry based on characteristics like flavor, texture and balance.
Dochterman went on to say the company, located about 10 miles north of Stillwater, is “grateful” to all those who have had a hand in its success.
“We will always work hard to make sure our fine chocolates are among the very best in the whole world,” Dochterman said.
The statement said former SCCC employee Nathan Eisinger and Scandia, Minnesota beekeeper — who produces the honey used in SCCC’s confections — Cathy Mackiewicz, accepted the award on SCCC’s behalf in Italy.

Police are investigating after three men were shot early on Saturday morning.
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are investigating after three men were shot in the Ventura Village neighborhood early Saturday morning.
According to Minneapolis police, officers were called to the area around East 21st Street and South 15th Avenue around 5 a.m. Saturday.
Officers found three men had been shot. One of the men died and the two others were taken to the hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries.
Officials said the shooting happened at a small homeless encampment.
Police have not announced any arrests as of Saturday morning.

St. Croix Chocolate Company in Marine on St. Croix has won national and international awards including Best of Show in this year’s America’s Division of the International Chocolate Awards.
Their chocolates are available at the St. Croix Chocolate Company kitchen or online.
This Halloween they are selling a Halloween Countdown Calendar that features 14 prize-winning recipes made into ghosts, bats, skulls and other spooky configurations. They also have a Boo Bag-handled tote that comes with their “best of” Halloween assortment.
