Warrant says driver who hit teen had no license, insurance
A CaringBridge site says doctors are keeping 17-year-old Lauren Elaine Olson in an induced coma to allow her brain to heal after she was struck on Highway 7 Tuesday.
A 17-year-old Hopkins High School student is fighting to recover from catastrophic injuries after a motorist, who reportedly should not have been driving, struck the SUV she was driving at a busy intersection on Highway 7 on March 5.
The CaringBridge site set up for Lauren Elaine Olson by a family friend says the teen is hospitalized in stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center but remains in an induced coma to allow her brain to heal. Lauren also suffered a broken femur and internal bleeding from the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Highway 7 and Williston Road in Minnetonka.
State Patrol investigators report Olson was traveling westbound on Highway 7 around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, taking a left-hand turn onto Williston when her vehicle was struck by an SUV driven by a 29-year-old Minneapolis man.
KARE 11’s Lou Raguse says a search warrant filed in the case indicates that driver was speeding and ran a red light before hitting Olson, who had the right of way. The search warrant affidavit also says that the driver does not have a valid license or insurance.
“Lauren is in stable condition and they still have her in the induced coma to let her brain heal,” family friend Nicole Mitchell posted on the CaringBridge site. “The doctors are doing several CAT scans daily to make sure that there are no new bleeds. All the CAT scans have shown nothing new, which is a blessing every day. Although this doesn’t seem like much, the doctors have assured the family that this is actually really good news. That means her body is working to heal.”

The suspect was 17 at the time of the shooting, but he was charged as an adult.
A St. Paul man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, more than two years after a drive-by shooting left a 17-year-old dead.
Casimir Semlak, of St. Paul, was charged with shooting 17-year-old Anthony Skelley in May 2022 during an apparent drug deal in South St. Paul. Police say a search of Skelley’s cell phone uncovered that the last number he was in communication with was linked to the suspect.
Semlak was also 17 at the time but was charged in the adult court system.
Following his death, family members told KARE 11 in a statement that Skelley was a junior attending St. Paul Public Schools’ Gateway to College program, and had “a beautiful soul with a cheerful presence and a joyful spirit.”
Semlak will be sentenced in January 2025.
The Moorhead Police Department said Paige Reinke was last seen Sunday wearing a blue sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — Officials are asking for the public’s help locating a 17-year-old Moorhead girl that is believed to be endangered.
According to the Moorhead Police Department, Paige Reinke was last seen Sunday near the 2600 block of River Drive North wearing a blue sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) describes her as 5-foot-4, 155 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
