John Legend to lead a Prince tribute before Gov. Tim Walz speaks at the DNC

John Legend and Sheila E. will cover Prince music Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention as part of a tribute to vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

Legend, a 12-time Grammy winner, performed “Nothing Compares 2 You” during a 2020 Grammys salute to the late Minnesota artist. For a 2022 video promoting “The Voice,” he talked about his admiration for the superstar.

“The first time I was starstruck was when I met Prince at an after-party after he has performed at Madison Square Garden,” Legend said. “Who wouldn’t be starstruck while meeting Prince?”

Sheila E., who was a close friend to Prince, frequently contributed on his songs and was the opening act on the Purple Rain tour. She recently complained about Paisley Park not allowing her to shoot footage in Studio B during an unannounced visit on June 7.

“I’ve been in that place from the beginning to just about the end,” she told the Star Tribune last month. “I’ve recorded so much music there. I lived there off and on. I slept there. My clothes were made there. My percussion and drums are in there. I want to get my gear back.”

The Legend-Sheila E. collaboration will take place in prime time, kicking off a block of speeches praising the Minnesota governor. It’s uncertain just what the pair has cooked up, but “Let’s Go Crazy” could be heard during an early afternoon rehearsal.

The pair aren’t the first musicians to contribute to the Chicago convention. Jason Isbell and Mickey Guyton sang on Monday, but James Taylor was scratched because of time. CNN reports that Pink will perform on Thursday.

Trump’s words of opposition stop a bipartisan budget deal in its tracks with Musk’s help

“Any member of the House or Senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in 2 years!” he wrote. He also called it ‘’one of the worst bills ever written.‘’

Sometimes Musk amplified false claims, such as the idea that the legislation included $3 billion for a new football stadium in Washington. In reality, the legislation would transfer ownership of the land from the federal government to the city, paving the way for eventual development.

Musk appeared emboldened by the experience.

‘‘The voice of the people was heard,‘’ Musk wrote. ‘’This was a good day for America.”

Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffries said the fallout would be Republicans’ fault.

‘‘You break the bipartisan agreement, you own the consequences that follow,” he wrote on X.

A man arrested in Dakota County who exhibited “seizure-like symptoms” during jail intake died days later, according to court records and the Sheriff’s Office.

Kingsley Fifi Bimpong, 50, of Cottage Grove, was taken to the jail in Hastings on Nov. 19 on suspicision of drunken driving in Eagan, a search warrant affidavit made public Wednesday disclosed.

Sheriff Joe Leko said Thursday that Bimpong “was incoherent, and his condition deteriorated. … We rushed him to the hospital as soon as we could see that it wasn’t good.”

Leko suggested that Bimpong might have actually been affected more by whatever medical difficulty he was having at the time, rather than being intoxicated.

The sheriff said Bimpong died a few days later, and “we’re waiting on the medical examiner’s report” for a determination of what led to the death.

An affidavit was filed by Washington County Sheriff’s Office seeking permission to collect Bimpong’s medical records that might shed light on his death. The neighboring Sheriff’s Office is heading the investigation in order to avoid a conflict of interest, Leko said.

According to the affidavit:

At the jail, Bimpong was unable to complete the booking process and “was eventually noticed by correction officers as having seizure-like symptoms while in the intake waiting area.”

Price, who suffered a broken leg in the crash, was arrested at the scene. Emergency responders took L to a hospital, where he died.

Video from a vehicle at the intersection showed the car on northbound Edgerton and turning left onto Bellwood. Price hit the car while speeding south on Edgerton.

Price told a sheriff’s investigator that his former girlfriend moved out of his home the day before and returned to speak with him on Friday. He said she accused him of cheating on her. Price said he tried to leave, but she was in his way, “so he moved her with an open hand,” one complaint read. He accused her of lying about him hitting her.

Price estimated that he was driving 80 to 90 miles per hour just before impact.

Price said he had taken oxycodone that belonged to his former girlfriend and smoked marijuana on the day of the crash. Law enforcement collected a blood sample from Price to have tested for illicit drugs.

Court records in Minnesota show that Price’s criminal history includes four convictions for driving either after his license was revoked or suspended, and once each for drunken driving and driving without insurance. He’s also been convicted four times for receiving stolen property, three times for theft and once each for illegal weapons possession, burglary, check forgery, disorderly conduct and obstructing police.
