The viral Florida man known as “Lieutenant Dan” is safe after riding out Hurricane Milton on his sailboat in Tampa Bay. He told CBS News that the Category 3 storm was “pretty mellow,” despite smashing his boat up against a wall.

“I’m not scared of anything,” he said, adding that if another hurricane comes, “I’d remain on my boat no matter what.”

Hurricane Milton’s historic rainfall submerged communities as first responders spent Thursday rescuing people stranded in homes and apartment buildings. The storm is responsible for at least 16 deaths.

In Colorado, 23 people were rescued after an elevator malfunction at an old gold mine. One person was killed and four others were injured while visiting the attraction. Another dozen people remained trapped underground for about six hours before they were rescued.
