The campaign is also expected to release unseen footage from the 1999 Mankato West championship game on Walz’s social media channels, along with interviews of former students and players.

Rumors of a possible Walz appearance at Friday’s Mankato East-Mankato West game had swirled in the days before it was announced. In a post on X on Wednesday, former GOP state Rep. Jeremy Munson urged people to show up and boo Walz.

“Rumor has it that Tim Walz will be at our local high school football game (Mankato East vs. West) this Friday, October 11th, at 7 PM at MSU Mankato. It would be a shame if attendees booed him on his home turf this Friday, October 11th, at 7 PM at MSU Mankato,” Munson wrote. “Have I asked what you’re doing this Friday, October 11th, at 7 PM at MSU Mankato?”

An adult male was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in north Minneapolis.

The shooting was reported at 4:15 p.m., in an alley on the 4200 block of Penn Avenue N., just north of the Washburn-McReavy Hillside Cemetery, according to police. The victim ran into the alley, where he was found by officers. He died at the scene.

Another person who ran from the scene has not been located, said Minneapolis police spokesman Sgt. Garrett Parten.

Those involved knew each other and drug activity was likely a factor, he said, although the exact circumstances are still under investigation.

The shooting marks the 58th homicide of the year in Minneapolis, according to a Star Tribune database. That compares with 50 homicides at the same time last year.

The U.S. saw a historic 30% increase in homicides in 2020, which criminologists attribute to the widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fallout from the police murder of George Floyd.

Anyone with information about the shooting may submit anonymous tips to CrimeStoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting CrimeStoppersMN.org.

Unlike other finalists, the Minneapolis Park Board has to deal with significant changes of seasons. But that doesn’t make running the parks more difficult, according to Bangoura, it makes it more “special.”

“When you come here, you say, ‘Listen, don’t sit in your house all winter. Get out and explore,’” he said. “And I think people really envy it, because they’re going, ‘Man, they get to enjoy all the seasons.’ And this park system offers that to the residents of Minneapolis, so it’s pretty unique.”

The board oversees 185 parks across the city, along with recreational activities like ice rinks, cross-country skiing, seven golf courses and more.

Duluth mayor picks new city attorney as former one becomes a judge

DULUTH – Mayor Roger Reinert has made his pick for a new city attorney, following current City Attorney Jessica Fralich’s recent appointment to the Sixth Judicial District Bench.

Terri Lehr, who has worked for the city of Duluth for 22 years and has been deputy city attorney for the past four, will fill the vacancy — pending the approval of the Duluth City Council, Reinert said Thursday in a news release. The council votes during its regular meeting Oct. 28 and if approved, Lehr would start the new job on Nov. 1.

“I’m incredibly honored to be nominated for the role, and excited about the opportunity to serve in this role and work alongside administration and the council,” Lehr said in a news release.

Fralich, who was brought in at the start of Reinert’s term, was not even a year into the role when Gov. Tim Walz announced her appointment to the bench earlier this week. The position opened with the retirement of Judge David M. Johnson. Reinert said in a news release at the time that he had written a letter of support for Fralich.

Reinert described Lehr as having a diverse legal background in addition to being well-respected both in and outside of the organization.

“She has served with the last four city attorneys and knows the role better than literally anyone else,” he said.

During her time with the city, Lehr has worked in both criminal prosecution and the civil division. Before that, she was the managing attorney for Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota. She’s served on the Minnesota Supreme Court Advisory Committee and is on the board of the 11th District Bar Association.

Fralich, in a news release, called Lehr’s new role a win for the office and for the city.
