Police ask for public help in locating missing Minneapolis siblings
Police say 13-year-old Deneja Morse and her 12-year-old brother Alonzo have not been accounted for since getting off their school bus Thursday afternoon.
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are asking for help in locating two siblings who haven’t been accounted for since getting off their school bus Thursday afternoon.
A post on the MPD Facebook page says 13-year-old Deneja Leanna Raquel Morse and her 12-year-old brother Alonzo Lee Morse were seen getting off the bus near the intersection of W. 32nd St. and Emerson Ave. S., and there whereabouts are currently unknown.
Police say the siblings live with their father on the 3300 block of Girard Ave. S., but also have family on the 700 block of Penn Ave. N and a grandmother who is currently staying at the Hilton Holiday Inn near downtown. Both Deneja and Alonzo attend the Anderson School in Minneapolis.
Deneja is described as approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and 120 pounds with black weave hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
Alonzo is also 5 feet 7 inches tall and 120 pounds. He was wearing a green and black vest, black hoodie and pants, and white Air Force 1 shoes when last seen.
Anyone who knows where the two might be is asked to call 911, or leave a voicemail with Minneapolis police at 612-673-5845. There is also the option of calling CrimeStoppers Minnesota at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leaving a tip electronically on the CrimeStoppers website.
The officer will not be criminally charged for shooting the man in the arm.
ST PAUL, Minn. — The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office has determined a St. Paul police officer was justified in his use of deadly force when he shot a man in the arm.
The incident happened after midnight on Jan. 6, 2024, at an apartment building on Thomas Avenue West. Officials say a man called 911 to report he could hear a woman in another unit screaming that she was being sexually assaulted by a man with a gun.
St. Paul officers Joshua Needham and Ryley Reschke were the first two officers to respond to the apartment, according to a memorandum from the county attorney. In the apartment hallway, the suspect walked out of the apartment and charged toward Needham while Reschke loudly yelled “He’s got something.” The man was holding something metallic in one hand while the other was behind his back while body-worn cameras captured him moving toward Officer Needham, who shot at the man three times, striking him in the arm.
The man and woman were later interviewed by authorities, where the woman did not say she was sexually assaulted, but that they were screaming at each other which they believe prompted the 911 call. The man denied having a weapon and one was not found, according to the memorandum. The man said he had a cellphone in his hand and also reportedly told investigators the officer who shot him was “completely justified” and that he should not have charged at him.
The crash left two women dead and a teen waiting for the bus injured.
MINNEAPOLIS — A woman has been charged after a crash in north Minneapolis this week left two people dead and a teen waiting for the bus hurt.
It happened Monday morning at the intersection of N 26th Avenue and N Emerson Avenue. A Ford Explorer was struck when it was driving on N 26th, flipping over and striking a bus shelter. The victims, Esther Fulks, 53, and Rose Reece, 57, died from their injuries, police said.
Teniki Steward, 38, of Minneapolis, is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of criminal vehicular operation, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Friday. She and her passenger were also hurt in the crash.
Officials said Steward was driving at a “high rate of speed” through a red light, striking the victims’ vehicle. Before that, surveillance video allegedly shows her running another red light in the same area, nearly striking a different car.
“Our office has been in close communication with the Minneapolis Police Department regarding this case, which was submitted to our office on Thursday and charged Friday,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a press release. “This was another completely avoidable incident of a car being driven irresponsibly with disastrous consequences. Our thoughts are with the surviving victims and with the families of the two members of our community who were killed.”
