Woman Found Dead in Woodlawn Lake Identified as 61-Year-Old; Police Suspect Accidental Drowning

A 61-year-old woman was recently found dead in a Texas lake, and authorities believe she may have accidentally drowned. This tragic discovery has left locals in shock and raised concerns about safety around Woodlawn Lake, where the incident happened.

Body Found by Jogger at Woodlawn Lake

On the morning of Tuesday, March 25, a jogger at Woodlawn Lake Park made a disturbing discovery. While running near the parkā€™s gym area around 8:30 a.m., the jogger spotted a body floating in the water. Authorities were immediately alerted, and the body was recovered from the lake.

Woman Identified as Delilah Jimenez

According to local news sources, the medical examiner later identified the deceased as Delilah Jimenez, aged 61. Investigators told KSAT that Jimenez had likely been in the lake for ā€œa whileā€ before being found. Based on early findings, police believe her death was the result of an accidental drowning.

Woodlawn Lake Depth and Past Incidents

Woodlawn Lake, which is about six feet deep, has been the site of several past incidents. Just a month before Jimenezā€™s body was found, another serious event occurred at the same lake. In that case, a man drove his vehicle into the water and was later shot by police after he got out holding a knife, according to reports by KENS.

Previous Body Found in the Lake

Unfortunately, this is not the first time a body has been discovered in Woodlawn Lake. On October 8, 2023, police found the body of a man named Corey Dents in the same lake. Authorities stated that his body had likely been there for several days before being found.

Growing Safety Concerns

While accidental drownings can happen, repeated incidents like these bring attention to the need for better safety measures around public lakes and parks. Some residents have voiced concerns and suggested improved lighting, warning signs, and more routine patrols around water bodies in public areas.

The death of Delilah Jimenez is a sad reminder of how important safety near water can be, especially in public spaces. While the exact circumstances around her drowning are still under investigation, the early belief is that it was accidental.

For now, her family and the local community mourn her loss, hoping that steps will be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
