The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed the full schedule of payments for April 2025, offering clarity for the nearly 69 million Americans who depend on this monthly support. This includes retirees, people with disabilities, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients.
Payments are sent based on birth dates, following a calendar system that helps the SSA manage such a large volume of distributions. Even with some changes in leadership and office functions under the Trump administration, there are no signs of payment delays or interruptions this month.
April 2025 SSI and Social Security Payment Schedule
April 1 – SSI Payments Begin
For the 7.4 million SSI recipients, April payments will be sent on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. If you don’t see the money right away, the SSA suggests waiting three business days before reporting a delay.
Also, due to the calendar setup in May, two SSI payments will be made next month—one on May 1, and another on May 30, since June 1 falls on a Sunday.
For Those Receiving Both SSI and Social Security
About half of SSI recipients also get Social Security benefits. If you are one of them, it’s important to follow both schedules to plan your finances properly. You can always check the complete calendar for 2025 and 2026 on the SSA’s official website.

April Social Security Payment Dates by Birthdate
Social Security benefits are usually paid out on Wednesdays of each month, depending on when you were born:
- Born 1st–10th: Payment arrives on April 9 (second Wednesday)
- Born 11th–20th: Payment arrives on April 16 (third Wednesday)
- Born 21st–31st: Payment arrives on April 23 (fourth Wednesday)
This pattern helps ensure that every group receives their payment on time without system overloads.
SSA Changes Under the Trump Administration
Recent remarks by Howard Lutnick, the Secretary of Commerce, on the All-In Podcast, stirred discussions. He highlighted how even minor disruptions in Social Security could create major issues, especially for older citizens. He said, “If Social Security didn’t send out its checks this month, my 94-year-old mother-in-law wouldn’t be calling to complain.”
He also added, “Those over 80 and 90 trust the government,” referring to the importance of maintaining reliable payment systems. Despite some job cuts and office closures in the SSA, payment distribution remains unaffected.
Most Payments Are Sent Electronically
About 99% of Social Security payments are sent through Direct Deposit, ensuring faster and safer delivery. If you haven’t enrolled yet, setting it up can help you avoid postal delays or lost checks. In rare cases—like public holidays or system errors—payments can be delayed by up to three days, but they are rarely missed altogether.
The SSA also reminds beneficiaries to check their bank account details regularly and avoid calling customer service too soon after the payment date to keep the lines free for urgent issues.
Note: Why March 2025 Had No SSI Payment
In March 2025, SSI recipients didn’t get a payment because March 1 was a Saturday. The SSA doesn’t send deposits on weekends or holidays, so those payments were sent early on February 28. Similar date shifts may happen in other months too, so keeping track of the schedule is key.
