A woman in New York City is reportedly near death as a result of a botched home surgery performed by a fake doctor. The New York Times reports that Felipe Hoyos Foronda is in police custody after attempting to flee the country. Meanwhile, the District Attorney of Queens has stated that the victim is “not likely to survive.”

According to the New York Times, Felipe Hoyos Foronda previously operated his makeshift clinic from a brick house on a well-kept residential street in Astoria, Queens. According to the New York Post, Foronda told paying patients that he was a Columbia-certified doctor.
Details On Botched BBL Surgery
The victim in this story reportedly paid the bogus doctor to remove her butt implants. She went to his clinic between 1 and 3:15 p.m. on the day of the incident. During the illegal procedure, Foronda allegedly used a syringe to inject her with an anesthetic, causing lidocaine toxicity. She eventually went into cardiac arrest, and FDNY EMS reportedly transported her to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital. It is unclear who called the ambulance.
While the woman is receiving medical treatment, the criminal complaint in the case stated that her condition was critical. Furthermore, the report stated that the 31-year-old female had “no brain activity” and needed to be intubated. Her identity is currently unknown to the public, and officials have not provided any additional information about her health.
A woman’s friend informed the police about the clinic after arriving to pick her up from the makeshift clinic and discovering that her surgery had gone wrong. When police arrived on the scene, they interviewed the fake doctor’s landlord, who provided a physical description and a photograph of him.
On March 28, hours after the botched surgery, police tracked Felipe Hoyos Foronda down using his license plate number. He was en route to John F. Kennedy International Airport. Officials were able to locate and arrest the fake doctor inside the airport thanks to the Port Authority’s assistance.
The New York City menace had attempted to flee the United States to Columbia. However, police allegedly apprehended the 38-year-old as he attempted to board his connecting flight to Florida.

Felipe Hoyos Foronda remained in police custody with no bond as of last Thursday (April 3), according to the New York Times. On March 30, the fake doctor was also arraigned on federal charges related to the botched surgery, according to USA Today.
Authorities have charged him with second-degree assault and practicing medicine without a license. According to USA Today, the court appointed him as a public defender before his next appearance in Queens County Criminal Court on April 28.
