During last night's cold open, the cast breaks down due to SNL's Donald Trump impression

With the Passover and Easter holidays approaching, it was no surprise that the cold open of last night’s Saturday Night Live, which featured Jon Hamm returning as host for the fourth time and “Still Bad” singer Lizzo as musical guest, had a religious theme.

It began with Mikey Day portraying Jesus during the temple cleansing, enraged by the presence of merchants and money changers polluting the area. Speaking of corruption, enter Donald “Jesus” Trump (James Austin Johnson), a man who “prays so much, they call me a predator.”

Old Don came in to talk about the harsh tariffs and the plummeting stock market: “I also got rid of money last week, but instead of one temple, I did the entire country. “Perhaps even the world,” he joked.

After claiming that the stock market “did a Jesus” as a result of his erratic financial policies (“It died, then on the third day, it rose. On the fourth day, it died again.

Possibly, never to return, just like Jesus”), POTUS segued to the upcoming Easter festivities, a.k.a. “the day where the most homophobic people try to dress as gay as possible.”

Throughout, Day’s Jesus and the rest of the actors—all dressed in biblical garb—were paused in place behind Johnson’s Trump, who hilariously used the opportunity to break the fourth wall and poke fun at fellow cast members such as Mikey “Great Clips” Day, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman, all of whom struggled not to buckle in the face of his taunts.

( “Look at Sarah Sherman, stuck with her mouth open back there— bad choice!” ) Following his own call-out, Kenan Thompson trolled Morgan Wallen with an abrupt walk-off.
