The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that another group of SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) recipients will receive their monthly disability payments this week. These payments are part of the April 2025 SSDI schedule, and they follow the agency’s system that separates beneficiaries into different groups based on date of birth and when they started receiving benefits.
Let’s look at who is eligible for this week’s payment, how much you could receive, and what comes next.
Who Will Receive SSDI on April 16, 2025?
The April 16 payment is for SSDI recipients who:
- Started receiving benefits after May 1997, and
- Have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
If you meet these two conditions, you’re in Group 3 and should expect your SSDI payment on Wednesday, April 16. This includes disabled workers, and in some cases, qualified dependents such as spouses or children.
This system helps the SSA manage payments smoothly, sending checks to different groups on Wednesdays throughout the month.
SSDI Payment Dates for April 2025
Here’s a simple summary of this month’s SSDI payment schedule:
- April 3: Paid to those who started receiving SSDI before May 1997.
- April 9: Paid to Group 2 (birthdays between 1st and 10th, benefits started after May 1997).
- April 16: Scheduled for Group 3 (birthdays between 11th and 20th, post-May 1997).
- April 23: Final payment for Group 4 (birthdays between 21st and 31st, post-May 1997).
So, if you’re not in Group 3, your payment may have already arrived or will come on April 23.

Maximum SSDI Payment in April 2025: Up to $4,018
The SSA also shared the maximum SSDI payment possible in April 2025: $4,018. However, very few people qualify for this amount. To reach this figure, you must meet strict conditions, including:
1. Long and high-income work history
You must have:
- Worked for at least 35 years in Social Security-covered jobs.
- Earned close to the maximum taxable earnings limit every year (which is $176,100 in 2025).
The benefit is calculated using your Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME), which reflects your lifetime income.
2. Severe and qualifying disability
- You must be unable to do substantial work (earning below $1,550/month in 2025 for non-blind; $2,590/month for blind).
- The disability must last at least 12 months or be terminal, as per SSA medical guidelines.
3. Enough work credits
- You need at least 40 Social Security credits, with 20 earned recently.
- Credits are earned based on yearly income and depend on your age at the time of disability.
What About Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?
If you also receive SSI benefits, your next payment is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, 2025. Since May 1 falls on a weekday, no date change is expected.
The next SSDI payment will arrive on April 16, 2025, for Group 3 beneficiaries—those born between the 11th and 20th who started receiving payments after May 1997. With a maximum benefit of up to $4,018, eligibility depends on lifetime earnings, the severity of the disability, and sufficient work history.
If you’re expecting your payment, make sure your personal and banking information is up to date. For others, the final April payment will come on April 23, and SSI beneficiaries can look forward to their May 1 deposit.
