ST PAUL, Minnesota — The Xcel Energy Center will receive a new name.
While Xcel Energy will continue to partner with the Minnesota Wild, the current arena naming rights will expire this summer after a 25-year run.
According to the new agreement, which was announced on Tuesday, Xcel Energy will collaborate closely with the Minnesota Wild’s community relations team to promote the sport. According to a press release, Xcel has also agreed to provide grants to organizations for young people and high schools.
“Twenty-five years ago, the Minnesota Wild and Xcel Energy were new regional brands. In a press release, Bob Frenzel, Xcel Energy chairman, president, and CEO, stated that these two brands are now deeply ingrained in our community and culture.
“This new chapter with the Wild extends our commitment to the region and will serve to expand access to the sport of hockey so that more young girls and boys across the state can access and more fully engage in this wonderful sport.”
In terms of arena name, the Wild plan to announce their new partner before the 2025-26 season begins.
“We are extremely thankful for our 25-year naming and team marketing rights partnership with Xcel Energy,” said Wild owner Craig Leipold in a press release.
“Xcel Energy has been an incredible supporter of our team since our inaugural season, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with them on a number of unique community initiatives as part of our new, long-term partnership.”
The Wild face the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night in a must-win game to secure a playoff spot. If Minnesota loses in regulation and the St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames win, Tuesday night’s game will likely be the Wild’s last at the Xcel Energy Center.
