MANKATO, Minnesota — The investigation into the death of a Minnesota man, who was reported missing 15 years ago, continues.
Matthew Thomas Albrecht was last spotted in Mankato on April 16, 2010. According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), his remains were discovered ten months later in a wooded area of rural Blue Earth County.
The BCA ruled his cause and manner of death as undetermined, but his friends and family believe he was murdered. Authorities deemed the circumstances surrounding his death “concerning.”
“There were circumstances surrounding the disappearance that were concerning to us,” Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office Captain Paul Barta stated in 2023. “Matt had typically maintained contact with family; in this case he did not.”
Barta stated that they conducted numerous interviews and searches during the missing person investigation and after his remains were discovered.
Members of his family spoke out at a press conference in 2023 to raise awareness about the case.
“Nobody can fathom what we’ve gone through in the last 13 years,” Matt’s sister, Melissa, said in 2023. “The rumors we’ve heard; if you know or have seen something, please say something. “Someone has definitely seen something and knows something.”
