A study found that the likelihood of marriage is high among residents of Maine

Marriage is one of the most important topics to discuss in a relationship. It’s the ultimate display of dedication, resulting in a large celebration and, of course, a lot of paperwork.

You may not realise it, but where you live in the United States can have an impact on your marriage prospects. The likelihood of a couple marrying depends on factors such as the economies of individual states and the ease with which they can get married.

Schmidt & Clark, a law firm, crunched the numbers to determine the ten states with the highest and lowest marriage rates.

Can you guess where Maine ranks in comparison to the rest of the United States?

Schmidt and Clark used data from the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. They analysed the marriage history of residents over the age of 15 in each state to determine the percentage of married people.

Marriage history included both the percentage of residents who never married and those who did marry. Schmidt and Clark also took into account how often married people remarried. They then used the data to rank the top ten states where Americans are most likely to marry.

Schmidt and Clark’s ranking is not consistent with other marriage data. In a 2023 report, Nevada had the highest marriage rate of any state, with 26.2 per 1,000 people.

With those statistics in mind, does living in Nevada, the home of drive-thru marriages, increase a person’s chances of marrying?

Here are the ten states where Americans are most likely to marry.
