Tim Hortons, the famous Canadian coffee and donut chain, is now planning a big move into Maryland, with 10 new locations on the way. While fans are thrilled, some people are already wondering if this expansion could hurt other popular coffee chains like Dunkin’ and Starbucks.
Locals in Howard and Carroll Counties will be the first to see the arrival of the beloved Canadian brand, which is known for its Double-Double coffee, donuts, Timbits, and cozy café vibe.
A New Home for Tim Hortons in the U.S.
Founded in 1964 in Ontario, Tim Hortons has grown into one of the world’s biggest coffee chains, with over 5,700 locations in 13 countries. The first U.S. outlet opened in 1984 in Tonawanda, New York, and today, there are over 650 locations in the U.S., especially in New York and Michigan.
Now, Maryland is the next stop. According to Kyle Corman, Tim Hortons’ senior real estate manager, the expansion shows the company’s commitment to growing in areas where people want good coffee, easy drive-thru access, and a friendly atmosphere.
While there’s no confirmed date yet for when construction will start, the locations will likely follow the chain’s typical 1,600 square-foot layout, which includes an indoor dining space.
Fans Speak Out: Is Tim Hortons Better Than Dunkin’?
As news of the new Maryland stores spread, many customers shared their excitement online. Some even said they prefer Tim Hortons over Dunkin’ or Starbucks.
“Better than Starbucks by a long shot,” said one Facebook user. Another fan wrote, “Literally so excited about this!”
But not everyone is convinced. Some former fans, especially Canadian-born users, said the chain isn’t as good as it used to be.
“Sorry to my friends in Maryland, but Tim’s has not been very good for 30 years,” one person commented. So while many are excited, a few are keeping their expectations low.
The Competition Isn’t Staying Quiet
Meanwhile, Dunkin’ has launched new menu items for Spring and Easter. These include:
- Cotton Candy Specialty Donut
- Secret Dunkin’ Energy Drink (Arctic Cherry flavor)
- Spring Munchkins Bucket with Blueberry Sprinkled Munchkins
These are limited-time offers, so customers need to hurry if they want to try them.
Starbucks has also brought back some discontinued drinks in its summer menu, keeping the competition lively in the coffee world.
What’s Driving the Coffee Craze?
With coffee prices expected to rise across all major chains, more and more people are talking about the value for money each brand offers. An expert recently shared with The U.S. Sun that prices could go up soon, which may influence where people choose to get their daily caffeine fix.
Tim Hortons’ expansion into Maryland marks a big step for the Canadian brand in the U.S. With loyal fans already excited and rivals like Dunkin’ and Starbucks stepping up their game, it’s clear the coffee war is heating up. Whether you’re team Tim, Dunkin’, or Starbucks, it’s a great time to be a coffee lover in America.
