Aldi Expands Rapidly in 2025 With Over 225 New Stores in the Works

Aldi, the popular low-cost supermarket chain, is making a major move across the U.S. in 2025. The company has announced plans to open more than 225 new stores this year, marking its biggest yearly expansion ever.

Aldi Kicks Off Las Vegas Debut with Grand Openings

Aldi officially entered the Las Vegas market this week by opening two new stores in Nevada — one in Henderson and the other in North Las Vegas. A third store is already on the way and is expected to open in May at Rainbow Boulevard and Arby Avenue in Las Vegas.

To celebrate the grand openings, Aldi went all out with a casino-themed event. Customers received special Aldi poker chips that worked like quarters to unlock shopping carts — a fun twist on the store’s usual 25-cent cart deposit system.

Henderson shoppers also got to experience the “High Savers Room,” a one-day-only attraction that highlighted Aldi’s deals and savings.

According to local CBS station KLAS, Aldi’s prices impressed shoppers — with a dozen eggs selling for $4.47, beating prices at other local stores like Smith’s and Albertsons.

Aldi’s National Expansion Plan Through 2028

This Las Vegas launch is just one part of Aldi’s bigger plan to grow its footprint in the U.S. The company, which is based in Germany and has its U.S. headquarters in Batavia, Illinois, plans to open 800 new stores nationwide by the end of 2028.

The 225+ new stores planned for 2025 include both brand-new locations and the conversion of several Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets into Aldi stores.

In Florida, for example, Aldi opened its first of 14 upcoming stores this week in Fort Walton Beach. Four more stores — in Apollo Beach, Avon Park, Deltona, and Tampa — will open on May 1. The remaining Florida locations will open later this year.

Aldi’s Strong Growth Continues

Aldi’s momentum has been building for some time. In 2024, the chain opened nearly 120 new stores across the country. Foot traffic data from Placer.ai shows Aldi had strong performance last year, with double-digit growth in customer visits during 11 out of 12 months.

February 2024 saw the highest jump in traffic, up by 22.9% compared to the previous year. Even in December, Aldi was ahead of the competition with an 8.8% year-over-year increase, while H-E-B, which came in second, saw a 3.6% rise during that month.

With over 225 new stores set to launch in 2025 and an ambitious goal of 800 by 2028, Aldi is showing no signs of slowing down. The supermarket chain is attracting more customers with its low prices, simple shopping experience, and smart store design. From Las Vegas to Florida, Aldi is continuing to make a name for itself in the U.S. grocery market — one store at a time.
