Strong storms slammed Minnesota, destroying barns and knocking over trees

Beaver Creek, Minnesota — Strong winds and hail swept through Minnesota on Monday, destroying a barn near Faribault, toppling a large tree in Eagan, and leaving thousands without power.

Officials in Faribault reported that the wind gusts destroyed the barn and multiple silos, as well as a tipped semi. The National Weather Service also received a report of roof damage to a commercial structure. Officials have received no reports of injuries.

Shaun Mclafferty captured a photo of a massive tree on its side in Eagan, while the NWS received a report of a large pine tree down in Minnesota Lake.

Strong winds and hail were common in the most recent round of storms, and some cloud rotation was reported. In southwestern Minnesota, some areas reported hail up to two inches in diameter.

Thousands of people lost power throughout the state, including over 7,000 in the Twin Cities at one point. At 9 p.m., approximately 400 people were still without power.
