Cops say a nursing student on the verge of graduating was slain by her roommate after a quarrel about cats

A nursing student in Texas who was about to graduate was stabbed to death by her roommate after an argument over their cats, according to authorities.

Chester Lamar Grant, 40, is charged with murder in the death of 23-year-old Tamilore Odunsi of the United Kingdom on April 26 in Houston. Cops were dispatched shortly before 4 p.m. to an apartment on the city’s southside for a welfare check.

Officers knocked on the door and received no response. Then they walked around to the back of the apartment and discovered blood on the concrete patio. Cops entered the apartment and discovered Odunsi in the kitchen with numerous stab wounds.

Officers also found Grant in the bedroom with at least one stab wound. The victim was pronounced dead, and Grant was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

Houston police told local CBS affiliate KHOU that the two had only been roommates for a few months when they got into an argument over their cats. The argument erupted, and Grant allegedly stabbed Odunsi before attempting suicide. On Saturday, police took Grant to the Harris County Jail. He is being held under a $500,000 bond.

Odunsi’s family established a GoFundMe account for the woman known on TikTok as Tami Dollars, or TD.

“Tami was a beautiful soul, full of light, ambition, and kindness,” the fundraiser states. “She was only 23 years old. She was a God-fearing young woman whose faith provided her with strength and joy. She had a strong attachment to her church community, where she was actively involved and eager to serve others with humility and grace.

She aspired to become a nurse and wanted to work with children in her new career.

Odunsi was about to graduate from nursing school just a few days before she was murdered, according to her family. Her disappearance was “an unimaginable loss at a moment that should have marked the beginning of a bright and promising future.”

Grant is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
