The sheriff claims that a man was killed by his stepbrother when he went to take his mother out on Mother's Day

A man fatally shot his stepbrother after he arrived at their mother’s house to take her out for Mother’s Day, according to Texas authorities.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies responded to a shooting at a home in Houston’s 700 block of North Vista Drive around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they discovered 32-year-old Eduardo Alfaro Jr. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene.

Det. Mario Quintanilla of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told local NBC affiliate KPRC that first responders heard movement inside Alfaro’s upstairs bedroom while rendering aid. They tracked down the suspect, Charles Storey, 50, and arrested him.

“Deputies backed out and secured a warrant to process the scene,” Quintanilla said.

Detectives discovered Alfaro had arrived at the house to take his mother out for Mother’s Day. But Storey, Alfaro’s stepbrother, was in the house, “possibly during a drinking binge,” Gonzalez said. When the two men began arguing, Storey allegedly shot Alfaro to death while their mother remained at home.

Deputies arrested Storey on murder charges and transported him to the Harris County Jail.

“What should’ve been a pleasant evening between mother and son, instead turned deadly,” said Gonzalez. She continued, “mom lost two sons on Mother’s Day.”

A probable cause arrest affidavit outlining the argument between brothers was not immediately available. Storey’s next court appearance is also unclear.
