Edina, Minnesota — If you choose I-494 or Highway 100, be prepared for a longer commute. There will be even more road construction than usual over the next few days.
Beginning Thursday night, I-494 will be closed between Blaine Avenue and Babcock Trail in Inver Grove Heights. MnDOT spokesperson Jennie Hinz says the highway will reopen Monday at 5:00 a.m.
“They are going to redeck the 52 bridge over 494 and work on the ramps. “That is why the closure of 494 beneath the bridges is required,” Hinz said.
Highway 100 in Edina will also be temporarily closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Monday.
Edina Engineering Director Chad Millner says the highway will be closed so that construction crews can demolish an old bridge over Highway 100 and begin building a new one.
“Right now, that bridge behind me has a very narrow sidewalk that does not work well for pedestrians. It is not safe. “It doesn’t feel safe,” Millner says.
