You are scum. The man who shot his pregnant wife in the head during a blizzard and left her to freeze before shooting at police while clutching his daughter finds out what happened to him

An Indiana man who shot his pregnant wife in the head and left her to die in her front yard during a flash freeze has been sentenced to 100 years in prison.

Gregory Guilfoyle, a former police officer in Greenhills, Ohio, was found guilty on eight counts on April 14, including attempted murder of his wife and a sheriff’s deputy. On December 23, 2022, Guilfoyle, then 31, shot Hannah Lynch, 23, in the head in front of the couple’s Brookville, Indiana home. He took their then-23-month-old daughter and fled the scene on foot during a snowstorm.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, a plow driver saw Guilfoyle on the road with the child, who was only wearing a onesie outside in the freezing cold, and called police.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Arin Bowers responded and discovered Guilfoyle carrying the toddler. In dashcam footage shown in court, Guilfoyle can be seen opening fire on Bowers, who was hit in his bulletproof vest. Uninjured, Bowers returned fire, critically injuring Guilfoyle and forcing him to drop the unharmed little girl.

Guilfoyle sustained injuries that paralyzed him from the neck down.

After confirming Guilfoyle’s identity, police went to the home he shared with Lynch, where officers had previously responded to a domestic violence report. They discovered Lynch unconscious in the snow, with a bullet wound to her head. She was rushed to the nearest trauma center and eventually survived.

Lynch lost the baby she was carrying and sustained life-changing injuries. In addition to a permanent shunt in her skull, she lost a toe to frostbite and had to relearn fundamental motor skills.

She told Guilfoyle in court that this was her new normal. This has happened to me because of you. “You disfigured me.”

She also said, “You are scum.”

Guilfoyle was convicted on eight felony counts, including attempted murder of Lynch and Bowers, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery with a deadly weapon, and neglect of a dependent. The jury deliberated only two hours before finding Guilfoyle guilty but mentally ill.

On Monday, a judge sentenced Guilfoyle to 100 years in prison.

His defense attorneys indicated that they intend to appeal, claiming that their client developed post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his work as a police officer. The Enquirer reported that Guilfoyle has been diagnosed with additional mental illnesses since the shooting. He reportedly admitted to the court that he was hallucinating on that fateful night.
