Saint Louis County, Minnesota Despite several days of firefighting, the Camp House and Jenkins Creek fires remain 0% contained, according to an update released Saturday morning.
The Eastern Area Incident Management Team reported that neither fire has grown since Friday. The Camp House fire is located in Brimson and has consumed approximately 14,800 acres.
Firefighters are attempting to contain the south and west sides of the Camp House fire. The Eastern Area Incident Management Team stated that dead and distressed balsam and aspen trees, as well as downed power lines, make conditions for firefighters more dangerous.
The Jenkins Creek fire has burned approximately 16,300 acres, and firefighters are working to extend containment lines on the northwest and southern edges of the flames. The Eastern Area Incident Management Team stated that crews are prioritizing the safety of residents in the nearby Skibo and Hoyt Lakes areas. Residents of St. Louis County can use this website to determine whether or not they are in danger from the fires and should evacuate their homes. Lake County homeowners can access this website.
According to the press release, homeowners in at-risk areas can gain access to their properties between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday and Sunday. Bring your proof of ownership and check in with sheriff’s deputies at Hugo’s or the intersection of County Road 16 and Forest Highway 11.
Firefighters reported that community members have been so generous in donating money that it has exceeded Incident Command’s capacity.
