You better believe it if your partner threatens your life. Mom cautions others after her son, a Navy sailor, is supposedly killed by his wife, calling him an example.

A US Navy sailor was gunned down in his own home, first in the stomach and then with a bullet to the head, allegedly by the woman he once referred to as his wife. His mother is now sharing her son’s story in the hopes of preventing others from suffering the same alleged fate.

“If your partner or spouse has ever said anything that threatens your life, you better believe it,” Calvin Wang’s mother told Richmond CBS affiliate WTVR, speaking anonymously about her son’s murder in 2023. “Never, ever think about this as a joke, or this as an angry remark,” she told me. “You know, you’d better assume the worst rather than take chances. “My son is an example.”

Christina Wang, 32, is accused of killing her estranged 37-year-old husband — described in his obituary as a chief petty officer and father who “never raised his voice” — in July 2023, about a year after the couple filed for divorce, according to WTVR.

Calvin Wang’s mother told the outlet that there was no physical violence in the relationship, but she was aware of alleged issues involving Christina being threatening to her son. Christina was also alleged to be jealous, to the point where she posted on the dating app Bumble, “Are We Dating the Same Guy?” and warned others that Calvin was already married.

“There were signs,” the mother claimed.

Just a few days before Calvin Wang’s death, Christina Wang allegedly posted on Bumble, “This is my husband Calvin.” If you see him on this or any other app, please be aware that he is married. And please let me know if he matches/chats with you,” reports Norfolk CBS affiliate WTKR. However, according to a complaint filed as part of the divorce proceedings, Calvin Wang’s attorney accused Christina Wang of committing adultery.

On July 17, 2023, after not hearing from Calvin Wang, one of his coworkers contacted Christina Wang, who allegedly told the worker that she shot him. Police were contacted and went to a Virginia Beach residence where Calvin Wang’s body was located. Officials say he was killed two days earlier, with Christina Wang allegedly gunning him down during an argument that included her slapping him, according to WTVR.

When Calvin Wang told her to leave, Christina Wang took out a pistol and shot him in the stomach and then the head, according to police.

Surveillance cameras installed inside the home allegedly captured parts of the fatal encounter, but the footage has not been released.

Christina Wang is currently being held without bond while awaiting her trial for second-degree murder. Calvin Wang’s mother described him as a caring father who was “very honest” and “decent”.

“Every night, Calvin was the person to give [his son] a bath, read a story to him, and take him to sleep with him,” the mother said, before making a last desperate plea to others.

“Don’t think you can change anybody,” she told WTVR. “You just need to protect yourself. You have to be brave. You have to tell yourself: ‘break the comfort zone.’”

Christina Wang is scheduled to go on trial in July.
