ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn – Cool weather and rain have created the ideal conditions for crews to make progress on the Northland wildfires.

According to a Sunday morning update from the Eastern Area Incident Management Team, the Camp House Fire is currently 31% contained. The wildfire has been burning for a week, according to the press release, and has not grown in size in the last four days.

According to officials, crews were able to construct containment lines on the south and west sides of the fire on Saturday. Today, firefighters will continue to work from those areas to strengthen the lines on the fire’s east and north sides.

The Jenkins Creek Fire is still 0% contained, according to the press release. Firefighters remain committed to protecting the Skibo and Hoyt Lakes communities. According to officials, firefighters and dozer operators extended fire containment lines along the northwest and south ends of the fire on Saturday.

In a separate update on Sunday, the Minnesota Incident Command System (MNICS) reported that the Munger Shaw Fire was 75% contained. Crews will continue to patrol the fire line and repair any fire suppression damage.

According to a release from the Eastern Area Incident Management Team, crews are preparing for dry conditions and strong, shifting winds in the coming days.

A community meeting for the Jenkins Creek and Camphouse Road wildfires is set for Monday, May 19, at 6 p.m. in the Mesabi East School District High School Auditorium.
