South African police have launched a manhunt for suspects following the shooting and killing of eight people at a tavern in the southeast city of Durban.
According to the South African Police Service, the attack took place on Friday evening when multiple gunmen entered the bar and opened fire.
When first responders arrived, they discovered eight people “lying in a pool with multiple gunshot wounds,” according to a police statement.
The police said six of the victims were men and two were women. Their ages varied from 22 to 40 years old.
“Investigations into the possible motives of the killings are underway,” the statement said, adding that police have launched a manhunt for several suspects.
The South African Police Service has asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact them.
The country has struggled with violence. According to police data, there are approximately 75 murders per day in South Africa. According to police crime statistics, more than 6,900 people were murdered in the country between October 2024 and December 2024.
