A North Carolina man accused of killing a father of three in a road rage incident in front of his daughters asked to be released on bond, but was quickly denied.
Terrell Eugene Giddens, 75, asked to be released on bail, and his attorney cited Giddens’ “significant ties to the community,” Fox News reported. Giddens is accused of shooting and killing Jeffrey Michael Guida, 40, in October 2024 during a road rage incident. Giddens is accused of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Guida and Giddens had each exited their vehicles at the time of the shooting. According to the Charlotte Observer, Guida died just outside the driver’s side door of his Jeep Wagoneer, and witnesses told police that Giddens continued to shoot at Guida after he was down.
The shooting occurred in front of Guida’s three daughters, who were inside the vehicle at the time. After killing Guida, police allege Giddens sprayed rounds into the vehicle carrying the girls, ages 2, 11, and 13, according to Fox News. None of the girls were injured.
Giddens’ request was considered Tuesday morning. According to the Charlotte Observer, Judge Donald Cureton rejected it in seconds and ordered Giddens held without bond.
“I believe this is one of the clearest examples of the danger of a defendant potentially to others that I have ever seen,” said Cuerton, as quoted by the newspaper.
Before Cuerton’s ruling, Giddens’ attorney requested a bond “in the $350,000 range,” citing Giddens’ desire to live with his girlfriend in another county, according to the Charlotte Observer.
According to the newspaper, prosecutors described the killing as a cold-blooded act of violence that opposed any bond.
“It was more of an execution,” Catawba County’s chief assistant district attorney, Tim Gould, told the newspaper. “Cold-blooded, calculated, and malicious.” He wasn’t afraid of Jeff Guida. He decided to kill him because he was angry.”
