A Washington man is accused of killing his father and brother before setting fire to their home to conceal their deaths.

According to an affidavit obtained by The News Tribune and a statement issued by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), 25-year-old Luis Miguel Huitron Campos was arrested on Tuesday, May 20, in connection with the deaths of his father Oliverio Huitron-Rosalez, 64, and brother Alejandro Huitron Campos, 31.

According to the affidavit, sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were initially dispatched to the family’s Gig Harbor home on the 15600 block of 14th Avenue Northwest for a fire on April 8. As the house burned, firefighters dragged out two men, later identified as Oliverio and Alejandro.

According to two Pierce County Medical Examiner reports, both men received gunshot wounds to the back of their heads. Their deaths were both ruled as homicides.

According to KOMO News, the presence of carbon monoxide in Oliverio’s blood led the medical examiner to believe he was alive during the fire. He had burns on the back of his body and a gunshot wound that indicated he had been shot from close range.

Alejandro was also likely shot at close range, according to the medical examiner. When he was found, his arms and fists were raised in a fighting stance.

According to the affidavit, the fire began in the home’s bedrooms, and the fire marshal believes the flames were set intentionally. Investigators also discovered a shell casing and blood stains, as well as a gas can and a lighter, which the fire marshal believes were used to start the fire.

After interviewing several family members, investigators began looking into Luis’ background. According to KOMO News, his cell phone records revealed that he was near the home at the time of the fire.

According to the affidavit, Luis received a concealed pistol license in December 2024 and later purchased a Heckler & Koch pistol. According to the News Tribune, the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab later determined that the shell casing and bullet from the May 20 homicides were likely fired from a Heckler & Koch gun.

A relative of the suspect told investigators that they were attempting to contact him to inform him of his father and brother’s deaths, and the 25-year-old did not contact police after learning of their deaths.

According to KOMO News, a relative also informed investigators that Luis did not attend his father and brother’s memorial services, and his family “was told he had disappeared.”

The affidavit also claims that Oliverio, 61, recently requested a $100,000 withdrawal from his retirement savings plan. His family member told investigators that the father had a home in Mexico that was currently being built and that he had amassed a significant amount of wealth through investments over the previous 30 years.

Luis was arrested by a SWAT team and charged with first-degree arson and two counts of first-degree aggravated murder, according to the police. On May 21, the Tribune reported that he pleaded not guilty.

According to jail records, he is currently held on a $5 million bond. It is unclear whether he has legal representation who can comment on his behalf.
