Publix, one of the most trusted supermarket chains in the US, is growing fast. With over 1,400 stores already, the company is planning to open many more, especially in the Southeastern states. From new stores in Charlotte, North Carolina, to exciting locations in Florida, Publix is working hard to give more shoppers access to its clean stores, friendly service, and fresh products.
New Store Coming to East Charlotte
On Wednesday, May 28, a new Publix store will open in east Charlotte, North Carolina. It is located at 12925 Albemarle Road in the Clear Creek Crossings area. The store will open at 7 am and is about 47,000 square feet in size. Around 140 people will be hired for full-time and part-time jobs here.
This store comes shortly after another Publix opened at 11525 Carmel Commons Boulevard. Together, they make 25 Publix locations in the Charlotte area. Even though Publix is growing, it still ranks fourth in Charlotte’s grocery market, behind Walmart, Food Lion, and Harris Teeter.
More Publix Stores Planned in Charlotte
Publix is not stopping with just one or two new stores. The company has plans to open at least five more stores in the Charlotte area. One of them is being built at the Arboretum shopping center near Providence and Pineville-Matthews roads.
Another new store is coming to the 10 Tryon building at Tryon and Ninth streets. This one will be smaller, around 28,000 square feet, but will be placed in a prime downtown location.
Florida Continues to Be a Big Focus
Publix already has nearly 900 stores in Florida, but that hasn’t stopped the company from growing even more. Two new stores opened this month in Palm Beach County. One is a smaller 33,000-square-foot store in Boca Raton at The Greens shopping center. It opened on May 1.
Another, larger store opened on May 8 in Palm Beach Gardens at the Promenade Shopping Plaza. This one is almost 55,000 square feet and offers a full shopping experience.
There’s also a big new Publix coming near Jacksonville. This store will be 55,701 square feet and will include a separate liquor store. It’s being built at 1975 SilverLeaf Parkway and is valued at over $13 million.
New Prototype Store in Lakeland
Publix is also testing a new type of store in Lakeland, Florida, where the company is based. This new store, which is being built at 4730 South Florida Avenue, is known as a “prototype.” It will have more food and drink choices than the average Publix.
Customers will enjoy options like burrito bowls, pizzas from a pizza oven, and a “Pours” area where you can get smoothies, acai bowls, or even drinks to sip while shopping. Similar stores in Tampa and Wesley Chapel have already received great feedback.
Other Grocery Chains Are Expanding Too
Publix isn’t the only store opening new locations. Target has announced plans to open a new store by the end of 2026, which will be more focused on customer experience. Another discount grocery chain, which is even cheaper than Walmart, is set to open 21 new stores across 13 different states.
Publix’s expansion shows just how popular the store has become across the Southeast. With more locations, exciting store designs, and a focus on customer experience, Publix is working hard to stay ahead in the grocery business. Whether you’re in Charlotte or Florida, expect to see more Publix stores coming to your area soon.
