North Dakota is facing a significant bed bug problem in several cities across the state. Here are five North Dakota cities combatting a bed bug onslaught:
- Fargo: Fargo, including West Fargo, has reported the highest number of bed bug infestations in North Dakota, with 13 total infestations recorded. These include incidents at the Sunset Motel, Red River Lodge, Grand Inn, Motel 6, Super 8 Fargo, and eight private residences.
- Minot: This city has experienced two recorded infestations, one at the Vegas Motel and another at a private residence.
- Grand Forks: Two bed bug infestations have been reported in Grand Forks, one at the Quality Inn and another at a private residence.
- Bismarck: The state capital has also been affected, with a reported infestation at a private residence. Bismarck ranked #302 on a national list of cities with bed bug problems.
- Jamestown: This city has seen a bed bug infestation at the Days Inn.
It’s important to note that bed bug reports have been increasing in several northern North Dakota counties, including Burke, Bottineau, McHenry, McLean, Renville, Sheridan, and Ward. This surge in bed bug activity is not unique to North Dakota, as it reflects a broader trend across the United States, with infestations becoming more common in both urban and rural areas.
The rise in bed bug populations can be attributed to factors such as increased post-pandemic travel and a lack of knowledge about prevention methods.
As the problem continues to grow, it’s crucial for residents and visitors to be vigilant, especially when traveling, and to seek professional pest control assistance if an infestation is suspected.
