Need groceries or daily essentials but don’t feel like stepping out? Family Dollar has now teamed up with Uber Eats to make home delivery quick and easy. Just in time for Mother’s Day, customers across the US can now order straight from 5,000 Family Dollar stores using the Uber Eats app.
This move is a big step for the discount chain, especially as more people are looking for convenience without spending more. Whether it’s snacks, toiletries, or household items, you can now get everything from Family Dollar delivered right to your door.
Why This Partnership Matters
Bonita Price, Family Dollar’s Chief Merchandising Officer, said the goal is to make shopping easier, especially for customers in under-served communities. She said that having essentials delivered from home helps people save time and do more, all while still getting products at great prices.
Hashim Amin, Uber’s Head of Grocery and Retail in North America, added that the partnership helps people shop smart, save money, and stay on budget—which is especially important during times of rising prices.
A Limited-Time Deal: 40% Off Your Order
To celebrate the launch, Uber Eats and Family Dollar are offering a special discount. If your order is $30 or more, you can get 40% off (up to $25 in savings) by using the promo code FAMILY40 at checkout.
But don’t wait too long—the promo code is valid only until July 4 at 11:59 PM PT. So, it’s a good chance to stock up on essentials at a lower price, especially if you’re trying the service for the first time.
What’s Happening With Family Dollar Stores?
While this new delivery feature is a positive change, Family Dollar has been going through some major shifts behind the scenes. Since being bought by Dollar Tree for $8.5 billion in 2015, the brand has seen ups and downs.
In March 2025, Dollar Tree confirmed it would sell Family Dollar to private equity groups Brigade Capital and Macellum Capital for $1 billion. The sale is expected to be completed by June 2025, and is likely to bring in around $804 million for Dollar Tree.
Store Closures Still Underway
Along with the sale, Family Dollar is also closing hundreds of stores as part of its restructuring plan. About 600 locations were shut down in the first half of 2024 alone. Going forward, Dollar Tree will close around 370 Family Dollar stores and 30 Dollar Tree stores as their leases run out.
In total, the two brands run nearly 16,000 stores across the US. However, they haven’t released a list of which 400 stores will shut down. Texas, with nearly 2,000 locations, might see the biggest impact due to having the highest number of stores.
Retail Industry Under Pressure
Family Dollar isn’t the only brand feeling the heat. With inflation and changing shopping habits, many retailers are struggling. Big pharmacy chains like Rite Aid and Walgreens are also closing a combined 2,240 stores. Even an iconic candy company recently closed a store that had been running for over 100 years.
While the retail world is changing fast, Family Dollar’s new partnership with Uber Eats is a move in the right direction. It gives customers a convenient way to shop without stepping out—perfect for busy schedules or those in hard-to-reach areas.
With a limited-time discount offer, now is a great time to try out this delivery option. And though some stores may close, Family Dollar is clearly focused on adapting and staying relevant in the modern shopping world.
