Following a search that led to a shelter in place notice in Lakeville, a man was taken into custody

Lakeville, Minnesota — The suspect who prompted a shelter-in-place alert in Lakeville on Thursday has been arrested.

Police say they responded to a report around 1 p.m. of a man with active warrants near Cedar Avenue. When police arrived, the man allegedly fled in a stolen vehicle, hitting squad cars in the process.

According to the Lakeville Police Department, the vehicle was discovered abandoned, prompting officers to set up a perimeter and search for the man with the assistance of a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, K-9s, and drones. Officials say this is when the shelter-in-place alert was issued to residents in the area.

Authorities lifted the alert around 4 p.m. Officials said the cancellation notice may have been sent to a “broader audience than originally intended.”

Police said that around 5 p.m., a resident in the area called 911 to report a man hiding on their porch who matched the suspect description. Police arrived, identified the suspect, and took him into custody.
