Police say a suspect is deceased after a shooting in a Las Vegas gym left one person dead and at least three injured

A shooting inside a Las Vegas gym on Friday afternoon killed one person and injured at least three others, according to police. The suspect was also killed.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Undersheriff Andrew Walsh, gunfire erupted at the Las Vegas Athletic Club on the city’s west side, killing one person. The shooting suspect was also confirmed dead at a local hospital, according to a police social media post.

A large police presence was observed along North Rainbow Boulevard, but Walsh stated that there was no longer a threat to the public.

Three people were injured and taken to local hospitals, one of whom is in critical condition, according to a police spokesperson at a news conference.

Officials said they are still looking into a motive.

“They said ‘Get out, get out, get out,'” Claudio Vigani, a witness who was in the gym when the shooting started, told CBS affiliate KLAS-TV. “Then I saw the dead guy next to the machine.”

Gary Steward, who was going to the gym with another person, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that a visit to a nutrition store saved their lives. He stated that if they hadn’t stopped, they would have arrived at the front desk, where the shooter entered. They noticed glass breaking as they walked up to the gym and ran back to the parking lot.

“It’s just a weird feeling right now,” Steward said. “This is strange. “Who shoots up a gymnasium?”

Calls to the athletic club and corporate office went unanswered. The University Medical Center confirmed that it received four patients, one of whom was in critical condition.
