SUV plows into crowd at event in northern Minnesota, 4 injured
The Cass County Sheriff says an elderly driver was attempting to park the vehicle at an event in downtown Hackensack Saturday and lost control of it.
HACKENSACK, Minn. — Four people are recovering from injuries after an SUV plowed into a crowed at an event in northern Minnesota Saturday.
Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk said squads were dispatched to downtown Hackensack just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday after reports of a vehicle striking people at a chainsaw carving event. Deputies learned that an 80-year-old man was attempting to park his 2021 Honda Pilot when he exited the SUV before actually putting it in park.
The SUV kept rolling as the man attempted to get back inside and put it into park, eventually plowing into an area of tents and hitting four adults attending the events. One suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Duluth, while three others were treated on scene and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Sheriff Welk said the 80-year-old driver is cooperating with the investigation, adding that alcohol is not a factor in the incident.

LAKE COUNTY, Minnesota — Fires and campfires within the Boundary Waters area will soon be restricted as the dry conditions persist in northern Minnesota.
Officials with the Superior National Forest issued an Emergency Forest Order restricting campers from igniting, building maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire in an effort to reduce the chances for a wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).
The order, which will go into effect Tuesday, Oct. 1, prohibits charcoal grills, barbeques and grills — both coal and woodburning. The restrictions will remain in place until further notice, officials said.
“We have seen warmer and dryer conditions across much of the Superior National Forest, especially within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness,” said Superior National Forest Supervisor Tom Hall in a statement. “We want the recreating public to be safe as they enjoy the Forest.”
Forest officials are also reinstating the Wood Lake Fire closure restrictions, which will close several lakes and portages. Here are the areas that will be restricted:

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, the risk for wildfire is high all across northern Minnesota. The conditions in the area are abnormally dry, with some spots being listed as in a moderate drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Officials say the worker died in an accident at the Reyes Coca-Cola plant on Eagandale Boulevard in Eagan.
EAGAN, Minn. — A Coca-Cola employee was killed Monday while working on a semi-trailer at the botting plant in Eagan.
According to the Eagan Police Department, officers were called to the Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling plant on Eagandale Boulevard just before noon on Monday. Officials say there was an “accident” that killed the employee, who has not yet been identified.
