Hurricane Milton’s historic rainfall submerged communities as first responders spent Thursday rescuing people stranded in homes and apartment buildings. The storm is responsible for at least 16 deaths.

In Colorado, 23 people were rescued after an elevator malfunction at an old gold mine. One person was killed and four others were injured while visiting the attraction. Another dozen people remained trapped underground for about six hours before they were rescued.
