Wife of MN missionary killed in Africa arrested in his death
Easton said Shroyer and his wife shared five children, all of whom are reportedly being “well cared for” in the wake of their father’s death and mother’s arrest.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Just days after a Minnesota man was killed while on a Christian mission trip in Africa, the lead pastor of his parish, Lakes Area Vineyard Church, revealed his wife was arrested in connection with his death.
The news came Friday in an updated letter from Detroit Lakes pastor Troy Easton.
“As you all know, our community has been deeply saddened by the death of our dear brother and friend Beau Shroyer, who was killed in a violent, criminal attack in Angola, Africa on Friday, October 25,” Easton wrote. “Today, our grief and sadness has deepened immeasurably as we’ve learned that his wife … has been arrested in connection with his death.”
KARE has redacted the suspect’s name as she has not yet been formally charged.
Easton said Shroyer and his wife shared five children, all of whom are reportedly being “well cared for” in the wake of their father’s death and mother’s arrest.
“This is unimaginable, and yet it is very real,” Easton’s letter continued.
KARE 11 reached out to the Detroit Lakes Police Department for more information about the case but has not yet received a response.

Treating separation anxiety in dogs
Kathryn Newman from Augusta Dog Training joined KARE 11 Saturday to offer some advice.
LONG LAKE, Minn — Separation anxiety can be one of the most challenging behavioral problems in dogs.
Kathryn Newman from Augusta Dog Training joined KARE 11 Saturday to offer some advice.
Newman said dogs with separation anxiety were never taught that it is OK to be left alone.
She believes owners need to teach their dogs that it is normal to be left alone.
Newman said owners should train and socialize their dogs to build confidence.
The dog should also get enough exercise.
The third objective is learning the importance of the dog’s crate. It creates physical separation from the owner while the owner is at home.
Crate tips:
- Don’t let the puppy or new dog sleep in your bedroom (8 hours of separation and it’s not forever).
- If you need to, slowly remove the crate from the bedroom by degrees.
- Crate your dog for three 40 – 60 minute quiet times per day.
Newman adds that pharmaceuticals should be used in combination with quality behavioral modification practices.
Augusta Dog Training has three locations in Long Lake, Edina and Burnsville.
