Two Texas teens now face murder charges after a shooting spree left one person dead and another injured in an apartment complex in Houston. The teens opened fire with an AK-47, mistakenly killing a man they weren’t targeting and injuring another, according to reports from Houston Chronicle.
The Incident: A Case of Jealousy Gone Wrong
On March 18, 2025, Christopher Portillo Luna, 17, and Fernando Amaya, also 17, allegedly shot 84 rounds into an apartment, aiming for an 18-year-old man they believed was romantically involved with one of their girlfriends. However, the teens missed their intended target, hitting 41-year-old Marcos Cotto Torres, who was inside the apartment, and fatally wounding him.
Another man was injured in the attack, and authorities responded quickly after receiving reports of the shooting.
Charges and Motive Behind the Attack
Both Luna and Amaya have been charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and in Amaya’s case, aggravated assault of a family member. The shooting was reportedly fueled by jealousy. Amaya was said to have believed the 18-year-old man was involved with his girlfriend, which led to the violent outburst.
According to court documents, Amaya had also made threats to kill his girlfriend and himself before the shooting. At least four other individuals were present in the apartment at the time, though none of them were injured.
Investigation and Aftermath
After the incident, police discovered Torres’s body inside the apartment, while the injured man was found just outside. The AK-47 used in the shooting was reportedly part of the weaponry the teens carried in the attack. Authorities have since been piecing together the events leading to the tragic incident.
