The Social Security Administration (SSA) sends Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments to millions of people every month. If the 1st falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payments are sometimes moved to the last business day before the holiday.
In this case, the payment was moved up to December 31, 2025, because January 1, 2025, was a Wednesday and a holiday (New Year’s).
The deposit is due on May 30, since June 1 is a Sunday. The goal of this policy is to make sure that people who are supposed to get money do not have to wait because banks are closed. Some news stories got it wrong, but official sources say that there are not any double SSI payments in months like October or December.
SSI payments for the rest of 2025
As far as the SSA is concerned, payments are only changed if the first of the month is not a business day. This includes Labor Day, September 1, which falls on a Monday and needs to be moved to August 29.
It can be confusing because some months you get twice as much SSI as other months you do not get any at all. To clear things up, the agency sends 12 payments a year, one for each month. Not one more, not one less:

Let us talk about the amounts: the most an SSI recipient can get in 2025 (April through December) is $967, and the most a couple can get who lives together and applies for benefits together is $1,450.
“Essential person” is something that is almost no longer used. This extra payment of $484 is for people who get help from someone who does even the simplest things for them every day.
