Minneapolis — Police say a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed Monday night near the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Minneapolis.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the shooting took place around 9 p.m. on the 90 block of Hennepin Avenue.
When officers arrived, they discovered a teenager lying on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.
According to O’Hara, there was a “altercation” between a group of about a dozen teenagers, during which a gun was fired.
“Every incident we have is tragic, but of course, whenever there’s children or young people involved, it’s that much more difficult,” O’Hara told the audience.
An hour later, a second shooting occurred near downtown in the Elliot Park neighborhood, according to police. According to O’Hara, a man was shot but is expected to recover, and an arrest has been made. O’Hara told reporters there is no connection between these two shootings.
