Minneapolis police responded to three shootings in less than 24 hours

Minneapolis — There was an apparent wave of violence in Minneapolis Wednesday, with four people killed and others injured in multiple shootings.

The first shooting occurred around midnight on East 25th Street. According to police, an adult man was found on the sidewalk, and two men and two women were discovered in a vehicle, all with life-threatening gunshot wounds. According to police, three people died and two were hospitalized with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Authorities called this shooting “targeted,” and said it could have been gang-related.

About an hour later, police reported multiple 911 calls, this time for shots fired in the 3000 block of 15th Avenue South. Officials said a man arrived at Abbott Northwestern Hospital with what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara was preparing to hold a press conference about the shootings Wednesday afternoon when he abruptly left to respond to another shooting in south Minneapolis.

Police say a man was killed in the 2100 block of Cedar Avenue South, near the Red Lake Nation Embassy.

O’Hara told reporters that a bullet also struck an SUV, almost hitting a toddler and an infant.

“This is outrageous. “It makes absolutely no sense,” he said. “It just shows how completely reckless this is, that we’re out here in broad daylight with a toddler and an infant in a car seat, almost getting hit by a bullet.” “It’s outrageous.”

While speaking with reporters Wednesday afternoon, KARE 11 inquired about another shooting that had just occurred on Harriet Avenue near Lyndale Elementary School. O’Hara stated that he did not have any confirmed information about the shooting at the time. KARE 11 reporters on the scene observed numerous bullet casings and broken glass.

Later that afternoon, around 4:45 p.m., police responded to the 2900 block of North Girard Avenue and used police tape to block off the area. KARE 11 has not confirmed whether there was a shooting.

Around 8 p.m., police responded to a shooting on 15th Avenue South near Lake Street, just minutes away from the overnight shooting scene.

“After a relative period of peace (the likes of which have not been seen in at least five years), that peace has been broken. There are families who are grieving, and this is a completely senseless tragedy. “We need our entire community to stand up and refuse to accept this level of violence,” O’Hara stated in a press release.

Police are still investigating whether any of the shootings are connected. KARE 11 has requested more information and is waiting to hear back.
