Toronto, Ontario — Julia Gosling scored twice in a 1:55 span in the second period to help the Toronto Sceptres defeat the defending champion Minnesota Frost 3-2 on Wednesday night in Game 1 of the PWHL semifinals.
The second game of the best-of-five series will be played Friday night in Toronto.
Gosling made it 2-0 at 7:47, then scored again on a power play at 9:42. Blayre Turnbull scored midway through the first period, and Kristen Campbell made 24 saves.
Minnesota’s Britta Curl-Salemme scored on a power play with 6:04 remaining in the second period, and Katy Knoll tied the game at 2:33 in the third. Nicole Hensley recorded 34 saves for the Frost.
Minnesota won its last two regular-season games to secure the fourth and final playoff spot.
